Rains favor Aedes aegypty infestation

Intensive days of inspection and spraying with insecticides are carried out by the Department of Vector Control of the Ministry of Health in the districts of David and Barú to control the adult population of the Aedes aegypty mosquito, which transmits Dengue, Zika, Chikungunya and Chikungunya viruses. yellow fever.

The regional head of Vector Control, Patricio Camarena, warned that the rains favor the reproduction of Aedes aegypty, so it is imperative that the population eliminate any object that could serve as breeding grounds for this insect.

"Only the intervention of the community, eliminating water reservoirs used as breeding grounds for Aedes aegypty, will reduce the risk of a dengue epidemic," said Camarena, who stressed that insecticide spraying cannot be done when it is raining.

Until last week, 189 cases of dengue had been confirmed in Chiriquí, the majority in Puerto Armuelles.
