MIDES signs an alliance with organizations to support early childhood


The Ministry of Social Development (MIDES) signed alliances with three non-profit organizations this Thursday, July 22, which will be part of the Cuidarte program, an initiative carried out by the institution in order to provide comprehensive care services to early childhood in rural and regional areas.

 

These alliances were signed with the United Fund of Panama, Nutre Hogar, and the Atenas Foundation with the support of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), which provides contributions to the National Government to carry out this type of project for the benefit of children and families. The head of Social Development, María Inés Castillo, signed her contracts with these three organizations, which were represented by Marisa Arias, from the United Fund of Panama; Ana de Córdova, for Nutre Hogar; and Nida Castro, from the Atenas Foundation; being as witnesses of honor Marianela Landau and Silka Vuelvas, Secretary General and national director of Social Protection of MIDES, respectively.

 

The Cuidarte Program aims to promote the comprehensive development of early childhood from gestation to 3 years. It seeks to recognize the leading role that the family has in the care, upbringing, education and development of children, guaranteeing their fundamental rights such as identity, health, initial education and nutrition.

 

This program will benefit 1,200 boys and girls from selected communities in the provinces of Darién and Veraguas, and in the Emberá and Ngäbe Buglé regions.

 

Minister Castillo pointed out that alliances with these organizations allow a more direct intervention with this child population in areas of difficult access and where there are no early childhood care centers.
