Minsa will supply medicines to difficult-to-access areas with an innovative computer system

The Minister of Health, Luis Francisco Sucre and the Vice Minister of Health, Ivette Odalys Berrío, participated in the presentation of the pilot plan of the Computer System for the Logistics Administration of Medicines and Supplies (SALMI) as an element of technical cooperation of the United Nations Population Fund. United (UNFPA).

The UNFPA makes available to the Ministry of Health (Minsa), to carry out a pilot in areas of difficult access where there are barriers to implement some technologies, due to structure and internet issues where the electronic file does not reach.

Félix Correa, deputy director of Health Planning of the Minsa, pointed out that with this system information on medicines is obtained to make calculations, estimates and to be able to optimize the process in its logistics.

Dr. Correa added that this would guarantee a supply eventually to the benefited health facilities and would help patients not have to invest in drugs.

He explained that after its approval, it would be implemented from the second week of September, to cover 6 facilities corresponding to the regions of Guna Yala, Ngäbe Buglé and the province of Darién, with a duration of 3 months.

SALMI is a very complete computer tool for the logistics management of medicines and supplies that is easy to use and understand.
