President Cortizo Cohen meets with Deputy Minister of Political Affairs of the State Department.


The President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo Cohen, met this Monday with a delegation of US government officials led by the Deputy Minister of Political Affairs of the State Department, Victoria Nuland, in which they addressed issues related to the pandemic, the process of vaccination against Covid-19, migratory flow, climate change, gray lists and the strengthening of democracy.

 

The US delegation reaffirmed the commitment of the President of the United States, Joe Biden, to make effective the donation of a significant amount of vaccines against Covid-19 to reinforce the continuous vaccination process carried out by Panama, which to date has applied 1,501,657 doses from the pharmaceutical companies Pfizer and AstraZeneca.

 

The President of the Republic was accompanied in the meeting, held in the presidential palace, by the Minister of Economy and Finance, Héctor Alexander; the Minister of Public Security, Juan Manuel Pino; the Minister of Government, Janaina Tewaney Mencomo; and the vice chancellor, Dayra Carrizo Castillero.

 

With the US delegation, in addition to Nuland, the Charge d'Affaires of the US Embassy in Panama, a.i. Stewart Tuttle; Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Western Hemisphere, Julie Chung, Department of State; the Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Western Hemisphere, Daniel Erikson, Department of Defense; the deputy director for Central America and the Caribbean, Megan Oates, National Security Council, White House.
