Transition begins in Ministry of Environment

In a meeting held this Friday, the transition process began in the Ministry of the Environment (MiAMBIENTE), which was attended by Minister Milciades Concepción and the designated minister Juan Carlos Navarro, who was accompanied by Óscar Vallarino, designated vice minister, and Gisela Rivera. , who will occupy the position of general secretary.

Minister Concepción was accompanied by Vice Minister Diana Laguna Caicedo, as well as the national directors, who gave reports on the management of the 2019-2024 period with the main results, the tasks in progress, as well as the initiatives that remain pending.

When welcoming the designated minister, the head of the environment Concepción highlighted the effort that has been made to update environmental management and emphasize aspects such as the protection of natural resources, as well as advances in processes, including the reduction of time evaluation of environmental impact studies and also the regulation and modernization of the procedures for this activity.

During the meeting, the role that MiAMBIENTE has had in the international sphere and the commitments acquired with organizations at both the global and regional levels were highlighted, which has allowed us to leave a good image of the country in terms of advancing an environmental agenda.  It was explained that there is a ban on the extraction of the cocobolo wood species, as well as a suspension on the export of shark species.

Among others, the project to create a map of the country's underground basins stands out with the aim of reducing the impacts of opening artisanal wells in search of water. Likewise, there was talk of the upcoming opening of a veterinary clinic for wildlife, which has been built with national funds and will soon begin to operate with its technical staff and specialized equipment.

Upon leaving this meeting, Juan Carlos Navarro, designated minister, thanked the head of the portfolio Milciades Concepción and his board for carrying out an orderly transition process, adding that he has had full access to the information, which will be received and evaluated by his team. of work.

“Environmental issues are complex and diverse and we are looking at each of the portfolios one by one.  Right now we are receiving the basic information and we will continue receiving it regarding the environment during the coming weeks until the transition is completed,” Navarro said.
