Mitradel inspectors are trained on ILO Convention 129

Inspectors from the Ministry of Labor and Labor Development (Mitradel) participated for 4 days in an update session on Convention 129 of the International Labor Organization (ILO), which addresses matters related to agricultural inspection.

Panama ratified this agreement in 2022, with the firm purpose of carrying out labor inspections at the national level that allow identifying labor deficiencies within this economic activity and guaranteeing safe and sustainable work spaces.

In this sense, the Minister of Labor and Labor Development, Doris Zapata Acevedo, pointed out that the permanent training of inspectors throughout the country will allow better labor inspection in agricultural areas. “Safe work spaces guarantee growth with social well-being and decent work,” added the head of Mitradel.

During the training, which was given by Javier Barbero and Fernando García, ILO specialists, as well as Jorge Requena and Iván Alvarado, on behalf of the Ministry of Agricultural Development (MIDA), inspectors from the central provinces, Bocas del Toro, Chiriquí, participated. and the headquarters.

With this update, the aim is for inspectors to know the types of agrochemicals used in agricultural and livestock farms, so that they can indicate to farm owners the corrective measures and measures to adopt to reduce the adverse impacts of said inputs for human beings. humans.

It should be noted that Panama continues with its roadmap of maintaining compliance with international labor standards for the benefit of workers under equal conditions.
