President Cortizo Cohen delivers remodeling works and reopens the new Rommel Fernández Stadium

With this ceremony, the reopening of the stadium was carried out, which will be the scene of the final of the Panamanian Soccer League and the games that the National Team will face for the 2026 Soccer World Cup qualifiers. A statue was unveiled in honor of the late Luis “Matador” Tejada, top scorer of the National Soccer Team.


The President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo Cohen, handed over the remodeling works carried out at the Rommel Fernández Gutiérrez Stadium, which reopens the sports coliseum, which now has optimal conditions for holding local and international soccer tournaments. and with the specifications required by the International Football Federation (FIFA).

At the reopening ceremony of the new Rommel Fernández, President Cortizo Cohen, together with the director of the Panamanian Sports Institute (Pandeportes), Luis Denis Arce, unveiled the statue in honor of Luis “Matador” Tejada, great Panamanian soccer player and top scorer of the National Soccer Team.  Relatives of Luis Tejada and Rommel Fernández participated in the emotional event.

The restoration works of the Rommel Fernández Gutiérrez Stadium are part of the program for the recovery and reactivation of sports and recreation spaces for Panamanians that have a positive impact on the well-being and development of national sports, the president highlighted.

The new renovations will be used for the closing of the Panamanian Football League (LPF) and for the regional qualifiers that the national team will face with a view to the 2026 FIFA world championship.

The remodeling of the stadium, which was carried out with a contract for more than B/.8 million, includes the installation of 10 thousand seats; rehabilitation of the players' and referees' dressing room; new façade of the coliseum, complete remodeling of the press room and kiosks; and general internal paint was placed. The roof was also rehabilitated, lights were installed on the playing field and a new screen, among other facilities.

Accompanying President Cortizo Cohen in this activity were ministers of State, the governor of the province of Panama, Carla García; footballers and athletes, as well as relatives of Luis Tejada and Rommel Fernández and special guests.
