President Cortizo fulfills promise and delivers, in Colón, the Abel Bravo Art and Culture Center

It is one of the most important works of the National Government and responds to a promise from the President of the Republic to the people of Colon. The Art and Culture Center is one of the most significant restoration projects in Colón; To this end, the old Abel Bravo School building was adapted and rescued, respecting the architectural elements and the pavilions that will now be spaces for the development of various artistic and cultural expressions.


Considered one of the most important works of the National Government programmed in the Action Plan, the President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo Cohen, inaugurated the Colón Art and Culture Center, the largest restoration project carried out in this province that will operate in the old facilities of the Abel Bravo School.

President Cortizo Cohen highlighted that, with the delivery of the Art and Culture Center, his administration fulfills a commitment to the people of Colon established in its Action Plan and that was materialized with the investment of B/.27 million to restore and recover this emblematic building, built in 1949 and where the Abel Bravo School, the first secondary school in the province, operated.

The governor thanked the people of Colon, in particular the Federation of Mixed Workers of Colón, which was concerned about the conservation of the historic building before the start of the project and during the construction work and who, from now on, will also participate in the operational phase.

Cortizo Cohen pointed out that for his administration this work that is delivered to the population of Colon responds to a desire of the province to have the house they deserve for the development of art and culture as expressions of the talent, sentiment and creativity of a town that is part of the roots of Panamanian identity.

The president listed the main works carried out by his administration in Colón such as the rescue of the Manuel Amador Guerrero Hospital, the rehabilitation of streets, the El Giral, Carlos Clemant, Anastasia Mitré schools in Palmas Bellas, and the Customs facilities in Portobelo.

He also mentioned the road from Gatún to Miguel de La Borda; the sports center in Barrio Norte; the facilities and grounds of the Columbus Fair, the road and rehabilitation of Fort San Lorenzo, among others.

The Minister of Culture, Giselle González, highlighted that the new Art and Culture Center safeguards the heritage and traditions of Colón and arises after the rescue by the National Government of the facilities of the Abel Bravo School.

He invited the people of Colon to guard, protect and take care of the Center. “This belongs to all of you citizens of Colón,” said the minister, who received recognition from the Association of Abel Bravo School Graduates.
