President Cortizo honors Aresio Valiente López with the General Victoriano Lorenzo Order

The President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo Cohen, awarded the National Decoration of the General Victoriano Lorenzo Order to the Guna lawyer Aresio Valiente López, who has distinguished himself for his performance, commitment and contributions to the development of the country.

Valiente López is a renowned representative of the native peoples, a valuable Panamanian who works as a lawyer, mediator, conciliator, consultant, university professor, dancer, musician and poet.

“His qualities as a patriot and his unquestionable commitment to serving the land where he was born have been the basis of his multiple achievements as a human being and as a professional,” said President Cortizo Cohen.

The Chief Executive highlighted that, in the field of law, Aresio Valiente López has carried out multiple activities, including teaching, legal research and legal consulting, and has participated in various projects related to improving the living conditions of citizens. Indigenous villages.

“For me as president, for our country, it is truly gratifying to reward the virtues of Don Aresio Valiente López, as a recognition of his merits and as a sign of the gratitude of the citizens for his contributions to the Nation,” said the president.

The National Decoration “Order General Victoriano Lorenzo” was created by Executive Decree 7 of June 8, 2023 as a permanent tribute to the heroism and bravery of one of the most renowned men of indigenous origin in Panama, and it is established that it will be awarded by the Executive Branch, through the President of the Republic, to those Panamanians who have stood out for their patriotic qualities and dedicated their lives to the service of the Homeland, especially the poorest and most humble sectors of the country.

The Minister of Culture, Giselle González Villarrué, participated in the event; members of the Council of the General Victoriano Lorenzo Order; and family of the honoree.
