Considered one of the most modern in the region, the President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo Cohen, inaugurated this morning the Cancerology Hospital in the City of Health, which will bring relief to thousands of Panamanians who suffer from the terrible disease of cancer. , and will offer services to insured people of the Social Security Fund (CSS) that until now were provided by the National Oncology Institute (ION).
In his 847th activity, the last in his 60 months of administration, President Cortizo Cohen, accompanied by several members of his Cabinet, toured the modern facilities of the Cancer Hospital that will bear the name of Dr. Adán Ríos Ábrego, as a recognition of the Homeland to this Panamanian doctor of humble origins for his outstanding work as a researcher in the fight against cancer.
President Cortizo Cohen explained that the new hospital center offers insured cancer patients the care that until now was provided by the Oncology Center, the only health entity that has been caring for cancer patients for decades.
He pointed out that the new hospital, like the City of Health, is a symbol of hope for Panamanians who now have first-world public health structures equipped with advanced technology to provide quality services to the population.
The hospital will initially have capacity for more than 200 hospital beds and patient management on an outpatient basis; It will have innovative cancer treatments, the most modern technology that currently only works in two countries on the American continent and the possibility of traceability with patients and relatives to prevent the disease.
The director of the CSS, Enrique Lau Cortés, said that Panama celebrates that the Cancer Hospital is named after Dr. Adán Rios, a tenacious man who represents perseverance, resilience and love for patients.
