First Lady tours facilities of the Specialized Institute of Comprehensive Neurodevelopment (IENDI)

The IENDI provides care to children from 0 to 9 years old. The first lady visited the facilities and the modern care rooms.


The first lady of the Republic, Yazmín Colón de Cortizo, toured the facilities of the Specialized Institute of Comprehensive Neurodevelopment (IENDI) located in the town of Don Bosco, province of Panama, which recently opened its doors to care for children from 0 to 9 years old. .

 

"This is the first facility in Panama that provides comprehensive care for neurodevelopmental disorders, visual and hearing disabilities to children, with rooms equipped to offer different therapies that will help a positive outcome for the minor," highlighted the first lady.

 

It is estimated that this work will benefit some 23,000 children at risk of suffering from a neurodevelopmental disorder. Pediatricians at the facilities of the Ministry of Health and the Social Security Fund will determine if it is necessary to refer children for care at the IENDI.

 

This institute has specialists and subspecialists such as neurodevelopmental pediatricians, speech therapists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, clinical neuropsychologists and special education teachers to capture and identify neurodevelopmental disorders in any of their domains.

 

Dr. Yamilette Rivera, medical director of this institute, and Dr. Mario Rodríguez, deputy medical director, showed the facilities, both for care and diagnosis, to the first lady and made a formal request for support for the acquisition of scales for diagnostic use that will complement and It will define neuro maturational conditions that affect normal development and that can generate preventable disability.
