The contribution that the descendants of the black ethnic group have made to the growth of the country was praised during a tribute made to this group, which occupies a predominant space in society.

During an event held at the Social Security Fund (CSS), the general director, Dr. Enrique Lau Cortés, highlighted that this population played a leading role in the construction of works such as the Railway and the Panama Canal, positioned as essential in the development of the country.

This group has influenced the culture, customs and gastronomy, said Dr. Lau Cortés, and for this reason, a tribute is paid to this ethnic group, of which "all Panamanians have something."

During the event, there was a tour of the different “stands” installed by the executive directorates and care units, which were decorated in a way alluding to this ethnic group and offered the attendees some dishes of the well-known Afro-Antillean food.

One of the guests at this event, Dr. Eduardo Ortega, national secretary of Science and Technology (Senacyt), congratulated the CSS team for this initiative, which recognizes the historical relationship between the colonial blacks who arrived through the Spaniards and the Antilleans who arrived later, to make an important contribution to the development of the country.
