Chiquita reiterates its commitment to Panama

The Minister of Commerce and Industries (MICI), Julio Moltó, together with the Vice Minister of Foreign Trade, Carlos Hoyos, received the president of Chiquita Brands, Carlos López, who presented an overview of the company's operations.


The Minister of Commerce and Industries (MICI), Julio Moltó, together with the Vice Minister of Foreign Trade, Carlos Hoyos, received the president of Chiquita Brands, Carlos López, who presented an overview of the company's operations.

Driven by a new government focused on investment and a transparent business environment, López reaffirmed Chiquita's commitment to Panama, underscoring the importance of contributing to the country's economic development and job creation.

«We are strengthening our partnership with Panama, a relationship that spans more than 100 years. “We firmly believe in the economic potential of the country and we are eager to contribute even more to local growth and the generation of more jobs,” said López.

Currently, Chiquita operates in 5 thousand hectares of production in Panama, providing around 6 thousand direct jobs and is currently the main exporter of Panamanian products.

Minister Moltó and Vice Minister Hoyos thanked the representatives of Chiquita for their visit, highlighting the fundamental role of the MICI as a facilitator of business operations in Panama and expressed their commitment to collaborate closely to support investments within the current regulatory framework, with the objective to strengthen the country's economy. There was also talk about the possibility of taking Panamanian bananas to new markets and generating greater exports.

López was accompanied by Jorge Solergibert, legal advisor in Corporate Affairs of the company, and Alejandro Ferrer, legal advisor of Chiquita.
