Successful mission to the US will attract new investments to Panama


After completing an arduous work schedule in the United States (USA), the Government Team made up of the Minister of Commerce and Industries (MICI), Ramón Martínez; the Minister of Public Works (MOP), Rafael Sabonge; the General Administrator of the Panama Tourism Authority (ATP), Iván Eskildsen; and the executive director of the ProPanamá Authority, Carmen Gisela Vergara, classified the official mission as “successful”, the results of which will contribute to attracting new investments from this country in the coming months.

 

For four days, the official Panamanian delegation participated in extensive information sessions with high-level investors; as well as in interviews with US and international media, affiliated with The National Press Club (NPC), to promote the benefits of Panama and its logistics, tourism and commercial potential, which is part of the economic reactivation plan developed by the government of President Laurentino Cortizo Cohen.

 

In a first phase, they held meetings with executives from the United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), the State Department, and the Chamber of Commerce. They also held a meeting with businessmen from the Meridian International Center.

 

Subsequently, the Panamanian authorities were present at the Panama Open House at Lincoln Hall in New York, also at private events held with executives from the Union League Club and with investors from Wallstreet, to promote the banking and financial sector.

 

“We are very optimistic about the good comments and interest shown by the senior executives with whom we met during this intense, but rewarding mission, where we reaffirm our competitive advantages, including our connectivity, special regimes, the benefits it offers for nearshoring and investment facilitation, and our 23 Free Trade Agreements ”, highlighted Minister Martínez.

 

As part of the mission, the head of the MICI also spoke as a panelist in a forum, organized by Americas Society / Council of the Americas, where he highlighted Panama's historical and commercial relationship with the United States, as well as the government's efforts in the search for a balance in economic and health matters through a successful vaccination strategy and other actions that promote a speedy post-pandemic recovery.
